ACTION C2: REINTRODUCTION OF INDIVIDUALS OF BOMBINA VARIEGATA AND SALAMANDRINA TERDIGITATA IN THE CONSERVATION AND CONSOLIDATION AREAS
Status : Not started.
Following the implementation and the improvement of the potential habitats for breeding of the amphibian species (Action C1), the re – entering of specimens of Bombina variegata and Salamandrina terdigitata shall be carried out in those areas which will be considered as eligible for this purpose, as selected in the preparatory action A1.
This action, together with the former, shall allow implementation of the extension of the distribution areas with regard the two species, ensuring a better conservation condition compared to the actual one is the SIC covered by the project.
With reference to Bombina variegata, an ex-situ breeding of the specimens is provided, followed by re-entering in the wild; young specimens of Salamandrina terdigitata will instead be moved.
In detail, the action shall provide for:
1) Collection of eggs, larvae and tadpoles of Bombina variegata, ex-situ breeding and re-entering in some of the intervention areas selected by action C1
2) Collection of tadpoles of Salamandrina terdigitata and re-entering in the conservation areas.
